This movie has been directed by Hana Makhmalbaf, daughter of Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf, and is a joint production of Iran and France.
It will also be competing with six other movies for the Altadis new directors’ award at the festival which will run from September 20-29.
“Buddha Collapsed Out of Shame” features the story of a 6-year-old Afghan girl who wonders what happened to the two giant statues of Buddha she used to see before they were destroyed by the Taliban.
Mani Akbari’s “10+4” is another Iranian entry competing for the Altadis new directors’ award.
The gala is to open with Canadian director David Cronenberg’s crime thriller “Eastern Promises” and the event will be brought to a close with the British film “Flawless”, directed by Michael Radford and starring Michael Caine and Demi Moore.
David Cronenberg, John Sayles, Wayne Wang, Nick Broomfield and Manuel Poirier are among the directors competing for the award.
Qobadi’s latest credit “Half Moon” shared the Golden Shell for Best Film with the French entry “My Son” directed by Martial Fougeron at the previous San Sebastian International Film Festival held last September.
