Iranian Vocalist Nazeri to Perform in Vienna

TEHRAN (FNA)- Austria will play host to Mowlavi-inspired performances by one of Iran's most prominent vocalists of classic and mystic Persian poetry.

Vienna will witness a cycle of Jalaleddin Mowlavi poetry sung by the well-known Iranian classical singer, Shahram Nazeri, in Vienna's Cultural Center, PressTV reported.

The vocalist will be accompanied by traditional Iranian music played in various Dastgahs (melodies) in particular Nava which is performed by Santour, Tar and Setar, a collection of traditional Iranian string instruments.

In September 2007, Nazeri received the French Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres Medal for his significant role in advancing traditional Persian music.

Nazeri, popularly known as the 'Persian Nightingale', is scheduled to perform in Austria's Cultural Center on January 9, 2008.
